Nerfed UW Drops? Bug? WTF?
i normally play in ab and halls all day, it has been this way for past 3 months or so, before that i had not played game for 2 years. my account is 5 yr old account and i used to farm uw heavily back in 2005-2006. i saw a solo build for sos monk in uw and decided to try it out. we got favor a couple days ago and i wasnt doing anything else so i decided to do a few uw runs. i clear the ghost town, smites and starting chamber and dryders etc. from first reaper room. i did 3 runs like this back to back and i was the only person in party. absolutely nothing dropped, no whites, no dust, nothing. all enemies in those areas were dead by my spirits. someone can please explain why this happened?

If I am not mistaken people have said on the forums before it's all random. I don't or can think of anyway someone could change that. Now I have heard over farmming a spot can cause this to happen, however i am not 100% sure. I have been with GW as long as you, and yes there are days that I get nothing, and those days where I get very descent drops. Overall I cannot complain, GW has been very good too me.

you my friend seem to have been hit w/ the "omg wtf gw hates me dealie"
this is a rare occurance where u can simpley get nothing. I've had members in my guild complain about it before. Now, the more ppl farm an area the less drops that come down. Now think the uW has been around since roughly the realese, so think of ALL the ppl that have farmed there. So this can rarely happen. Best i can say is go again another day and try again and hope for some better drops.

I find that for the first like 20 minutes that I play I get NO drops...so I usually log in, put my character into an explorable and then read posts on guru for a while---eye is the worst...I have killed 45 enemies before my first drop happened.....so it does suck, but does happen

Normal mode coupled with an overfarmed area can be really depressing for drops - I've had days where in 3-4 smite runs I could get 3-5 white items total, if anything. I really miss pre-HM drop rates.

Come on no drops at all that is not bad luck or bad drops. That never ever happened to me in UW. I always some drops be it bad or not, but never saw no drops at all.

This is such bs it's unreal. There is no limit to the number of items that will drop, it doesn't matter if 10 people farm the area, or 10,000. You are NEVER going to be in a position that the after (say) 500 ectos, no more will drop for an hour.. THAT IS NOT HOW GW'S WORKS..
People who believe that lots of people farming an area = less drops are deluding themselves.

if you had read the initial post you would see that i spend most of my days in pvp areas, i had merely entered toa to farm for that time period so as far as i can tell your "renewal" does not actually work
when i was farming heavily in the past we used to have methods of changing regions for client (before you could change them as districts), but this you could only do 5 times per account until you had to scam anet into giving you more changes via email. this turned out to not really work for getting better drops but would allow you access to uw during times at which another region had it. when griffon farming we used to change characters, accounts and ip addresses (via proxying). the only thing i noticed was that newer accounts seemed to have slightly better drops than older accounts. that could have merely been my perception and should not be taken as a statement of fact.
they have definately added code to discourage overfarming of areas over the years. back in divine boon/prot bond invincimonk days you could farm uw all day without any changes in drop rates for ectos and golds. we started noticing the initial "nerfing" of drops around the time that anet started to try and stop people from farming griffons outside of augury rock.
i have noticed that the common practices now seem to be to change to seemingly unused districts and/or to add "leechers" to your party to renew the drops. neither of these methods seem to have any sort of scientific basis to them other than player perception.

Please provide some proof of this mechanism. Because all I see is people make conclusions on anecdotal experiences and tend to simply repeat each other.
In 5 years of GW I've had instances of 7 ectos dropping for me in a smite run in 2 consecutive runs. I also had 0 of them dropping for numerous trips when at the same time a guildmate was raking in ecto after ecto, not to mention any other drop. I went down to the UW for the same farm last month and got 0 ecto. I tried again last week, and got 5.
I'll stick to random = random.

Loot scaling was played down and confirmed it doesn't affect anything but white drops and cash drops, dependent on your party size. All other drops such as gold weapons/tomes/rare materials are unaffected. This was over 3 years ago...
You people love rumours, don't you? DO some research.

Actually the drop rates in UW were nerfed slightly, once ANet started allowing builds for solo farming, right after nerfing solo trapping of course (yet another reason the SF buff still sticks in my craw.
There were posts everywhere at the time and GW forums everywhere were full of acrimony.

I don't think this was intentional, EW got nuked because of sway (which wasn't even fixed by it, lol). Solo trapping is still viable if you use ether signet.

regarding spirit spamming and drops: I stopped spirit spam farming for drake flesh because the drops were ridiculously few. Switched to a dagger build and then also an ele build and both get 2-3 times the number of drake flesh. I also ran a fresh new rit out to the same area to farm and the results were the same. I can only conclude that it is the spirits. (This is a farm that I have done many hundreds of times so I think it's beyond coincidence and reliably empirical) I wish it wasn't true and I don't know how spirit spamming affects other items.

The PermaSins already took all of the loot, and left nothing for everyone else. After all, since ghosts don't have pockets, where would they keep more loot?
